Action for Justice
Make our voices heard on issues effecting low income and vulnerable people.

Time required: Members – 5-10 minutes a month during legislative session. Chair – 30-45 minutes a month during legislative session plus 2-3 meetings a year.

Altar Server
To faithfully serve at the Altar of the Lord and support the Celebrant of the Mass or Scriptural Services. To support and serve the faithful by example of reverence and dignity for the Sacred Word and Eucharist of the Lord within the Mass or service

Time required: Regularly scheduled weekend liturgies (Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start of any liturgy/service). Meeting attendance one hour, quarterly. Special holiday liturgy practices, one hour.

Americare/HomeFront Team *
To help make needed repairs and clean-up on the home of a neighbor in need.

Time required: 250-300 hours for five people spread over six months. 6-8 hours for volunteers on HomeFront Day (approx. 30 volunteers)

"Archangel Newsletter"
To widen communication with the parish family. You will assist in gathering articles, making decisions about what needs to be featured, write & edit articles, type on floppy or send via e-mail to layout editor, layout articles, etc.

Time required: 3 times yearly. Each editor 50-60 hours over 3 week period.

C.C.D. **
To instruct the children in preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, Communion and Confirmation. Educate the children about the Church, Mass, Jesus, the Commandments, Sacraments and the Catholic faith.

Time required: October through May

Choir
Assist and lead congregation in musical expression of worship and praise.

Time required: 2 hours per week. Rehearsals – 1 evening a week 7:00 – 8:15. 11:00 am mass on Sunday. Participate in special celebrations, i.e., Christmas eve, etc.

Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion
Distribution of the Holy Eucharist to the faithful of the parish within the Mass as well to those who are unable to attend regularly scheduled liturgies due to illness or disability.

Time required: Two regularly scheduled weekend Masses per month. Attend semi-annual meeting, one to two hours.

Folk Music
Play folk music at 9:15 mass and sing

Time Required: Approximately 4 hours per month (Arrive at 8:30 am on the last two Sundays of the month to rehearse songs for Mass)

Food Bank/St. Stephen's Ministry
To provide food items for families in town who are in need of this assistance.

Time required: Three hours for 3 people and 8 hours for contact person (calling and picking up boxes). Holidays take a little longer.

Home Front Day
To repair/refurbish the home of a member of our community who is unable to do the work themselves due to their financial situation or disability. No special skills required. Just bring a pair of work gloves and a positive attitude!

Time Required: One Saturday in May

Home Visitor
To make visits to people confined to their homes. You may be called upon to run small errands, provide companionship, or just sit and talk for a while.

Time required: Varies

Ladies Guild
A community of women who support the parish spiritually and a time to share together. They offer many opportunities for the newcomer to meet other parishioners.

Time Required: Monthly meeting for 1 hour, plus an additional 4 hours per year for activities.

Men’s Club
To help promote the spiritual and social well-being of the Parish by men and young men of the parish. Support/promote religious activities of and for the men of the parish; support local civic and fraternal organizations and their causes and provide wholesome social activities and events for its members and the parish-at-large.

Time required: Monthly meetings (approximately 1 hour) and one additional monthly event. (Total hours 8-10 hours per year for activities)

Minister of the Word (Lector)
To faithfully proclaim the Word of God within the context of the Mass or Scriptural Services.

Pro-Life
To inform and educate parishioners about respecting life from the moment of conception to natural death. Support pregnancy crisis centers, Carolyn’s Place (Waterbury) and Birthright (Derby). Collect donations of goods or monetary donations.

Religious Education Teacher

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
To facilitate the preparation of the adult and young adult for membership within the Roman Catholic Church. To help those seeking membership to grasp an understanding of the Lord and all aspects of the Sacramental Church which he founded. To prepare the Community of St. Michael to receive new members and assist them in their faith-journey toward full membership.

Time required: Preparation for class meetings as well as the class meeting, one hour each week. Attendance at special liturgies at which “steps” of RCIA are celebrated, Support/Faith-walk with RCIA candidates throughout process (up to one year)

Sandwich Team
To feed the hungry by supporting our local homeless shelter, Spooner House. Make 30-40 sandwiches once a month with a team comprised of 4-6 members.

Time required: 1 hour, once a month

Small Christian Communities
To support Parish organizations, attend group meetings and discussions to obtain a better understanding of the Gospel and its relationship to life today.

Time required: 1 1/2 hours weekly

Social Ministry Coordinator
See that our current Social Ministries continue and expand; increase parish involvement in the Call to Action / Action for Justice Ministry; have our parish become actively involved in the Archdiocesan Center Edge project which will strive for a healthier environment in or state; begin a Pax Christi Chapter in our parish and start a Bereavement Committee for St. Michael’s.

Time Required: Varies from 15-40 hours a month

Technology

Vacation Bible School
A combined program with the Beacon Falls United Church of Christ (UCC) which provides a week of fellowship and community through songs, instruction, games and crafts for the children of both faith communities.

Time required: 1 week in June, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm each day.

Visiting
To provide socialization and companionship for parishioners unable to participate in parish activities.
